Introduction
Column Sequencing allows users to define and maintain a specific order for columns in datasets. This is particularly useful for ensuring consistency in data processing, reporting, and integration with other systems. By setting a predefined column order, users can streamline workflows and improve data accuracy.
Why is Column Sequencing Important?
Column sequencing plays a crucial role in several scenarios:
- Standardizing Data for Reports: Ensures a consistent column order in reports, making them easier to analyze.
- Integrating with External Systems: Prevents mapping errors when exchanging data between different platforms.
- Improving Data Quality & Consistency: Helps avoid mismatches and confusion caused by unordered columns.
How to Set Up Column Sequencing
Users can configure column sequencing from the Data Quality tab in the Table Detail page. Follow these steps to set up the column sequence:
- Navigate to the Table Detail Page.
- Click on the Data Quality tab.
- Click on the Settings Icon to open the Column Sequencing settings.
- Adjust the column order as needed.
- Save the changes.
Once the column sequence is set, it can be viewed and modified on the Rule Detail Page under the "Column Sequence" tab.
Editing & Reordering Columns
Users have three different options for column sequencing on the Rule Detail page:
- Suggested
- Table Specific
- Rule Specific
1. Suggested Column Sequence
By default, a sequence is defined as the "Suggested" column sequence.
After running a rule, this predefined sequence will appear on the Data tab.
2. Table-Specific Column Sequence
- The "Table Specific" option is initially disabled.
- It becomes enabled only if the user has changed the Column Sequence from the Data Quality tab on the Table Detail page.
- Once selected, the sequence defined at the table level will be applied to the Data tab after running the rule.
3. Rule-Specific Column Sequence
- If the user modifies the "Suggested" or "Table Specific" sequence, the new sequence becomes Rule Specific.
- Users can manually reorder columns and save their preferences.
- After running the rule, the customized sequence will appear on the Data tab.
Supported Rule Types
The Column Sequence tab is available for the following rule types on the Rule Detail Page:
- Data Format
- Blanks
- Value Range
- Orphan Records
- Ruleset
