Reference Dictionary

In this article:

Overview

A Reference Dictionary in DvSum helps maintain data consistency by defining standardized values for specific fields. It ensures accuracy, compliance, and uniformity across datasets. This is especially useful for DvSum validation audits, as users can select a reference dictionary with a predefined set of data values instead of listing individual ones.

Why is a Reference Dictionary Important?

  • Data Standardization: Ensures consistent data values across datasets.
  • Validation & Compliance: Helps enforce correct data entry.
  • Improved Governance: Supports structured data management.

How to Create & Manage a Reference Dictionary

Step 1: Log in to DvSum

  • Navigate to the Reference Dictionary tab.

Step 2: Add a New Dictionary

  1. Click on Add Dictionary.
  2. Enter the Name and Description.
  3. Choose one of the following or both:
    1. Key/Value Pair: A way to store and organize information where each piece of data (value) is labeled with a unique identifier (key).
    2. Hierarchical Dictionary: Arranges attributes in a parent-child hierarchy.

Step 3: Adding Code Value Pairs

Users can add values in two ways:

  • Manual Entry: Enter values directly.
  • Import File: Upload a file with predefined values.

Step 4: Importing a File

  • Click OK, then Done.
  • Uploaded values will populate in the Values section.

Step 5: Entering Values Manually

  • Select Enter Data Manually.
  • Input values one by one.
  • Click Done to store the entries.
  • Entered values will populate in the Values section.

Note: Refer to the article  Asset Dictionary for more details about the Overview page.

Clone a Reference Dictionary

A copy of an existing reference dictionary can be created using the Clone option. This allows a new reference dictionary to be created with the same configuration.

  1. Click the three-dot (⋮) menu for the reference dictionary.
  2. Select Clone.
  3. Update the dictionary details, if required.
  4. Click Save.

Note: The cloned reference dictionary is created as a separate asset. Changes made to the cloned dictionary do not affect the original dictionary.
