Overview
A dashboard is a centralized view that visually presents key data points, enabling users to monitor activity, analyze trends, and make informed decisions. In the DvSum application, dashboards help track data across multiple modules through configurable widgets and visualizations.
Default Dashboards
DvSum provides the following default dashboards:
- CADDI Dashboard
- Catalog Dashboard
- DQ Dashboard
- Platform Dashboard
Note: Default dashboards are automatically available to all users and cannot be manually shared or deleted.
Dashboard Lists
Dashboards are organized into the following sections:
-
Created by Me
Displays all dashboards created by the logged-in user. -
Shared with Me
Displays dashboards that have been shared with the user by others.
Creating a Dashboard
- Click Create Dashboard.
- Enter a Name and Description.
- Click Create.
An empty dashboard is created and displayed.
To begin adding content, click Add Widget and choose one of the following options:
- Pick from Gallery
- Create Your Own
Adding Widgets
Pick from Gallery
The widget gallery includes predefined widgets from all modules within the DvSum application.
When a widget is selected:
- The widget detail page opens
- The widget title, module, preferred chart type, slicers (Y-axis), and metrics (X-axis) are automatically populated
- Data can be sorted for chart display
- Data labels (legends) can be enabled if needed
This option is recommended when you want to quickly reuse an existing widget configuration.
Create Your Own
Use this option to build a widget from scratch.
You can:
- Select the target module
- Define custom filter criteria
- Choose slicers, metrics, and chart type
This option provides full control over widget configuration.
Choosing the Chart Type
Different chart types support different combinations of metrics and slicers.
| Chart Type | Metrics Supported | Slicers Supported | Description |
| Bar Chart | 1 | 1 | Equivalent to Column Chart |
| Column Chart | 1 | 2 | Equivalent to Bar Chart |
| Stacked Bar Chart | 1 | 2 | Required when using two slicers |
| Stacked Column Chart | 1 | 2 | Same capability as stacked bar |
| Line Chart | 1–2 | 1–2 (series-based) | Useful for trend comparison |
| KPI | 1 | 0 | High-level summary only |
| Pivot Table | 1 | Rows (required), Columns (optional) | Displays aggregated data in a matrix format using Rows, Columns, and a Metric |
| Donut Chart | 1 | 1 | Displays proportional distribution across categories |
Module Filter Criteria
Module filter criteria allow users to narrow down data within a module using predefined conditions. Filters help focus widgets on relevant data and maintain consistency across dashboards.
Adding New Filter Criteria
- New filter criteria can be created as needed
- Once created, the filter appears under Selected Filters
- Filters can be reused across multiple widgets
After saving the widget, it becomes available on the dashboard.
Data Labels
Enabling Data Labels
Data labels can be enabled from the Create/Edit Widget form.
When enabled, labels are displayed directly on the chart, making values easier to interpret.
Disabling Data Labels
When disabled, the chart displays without labels, providing a cleaner visual when exact values are not required.
For practical examples of adding dashboards and widgets, please refer to the article Dashboard and Widgets: Practical Examples
Managing Widgets on a Dashboard
- Click Add Widget to add additional widgets to the dashboard
- Use the Expand icon to view a widget in full-screen mode
Widget Options Menu
Click the three-dot menu on a widget to access the following options:
Add to Home
Adds the selected widget to the Home page for quick access.
Download Widget
Downloads the widget data as a CSV file.
Sharing a Dashboard
Dashboards can be kept private or shared with other users.
When sharing a dashboard, you can assign one of the following access levels:
Viewer Access
Viewers can:
- Expand and view widgets in full screen
- Download widget data
- Add the dashboard to their Home page
Editor Access
Editors can:
- Modify the dashboard
- Add, remove, or edit widgets
- Manage dashboard configuration
Deleting a Dashboard
When deleting a dashboard:
- A confirmation prompt displays the number of users the dashboard is shared with
- You must confirm before the dashboard is permanently deleted
Cloning a Dashboard
- Default dashboards can be cloned but cannot be deleted
- User-created dashboards can be both cloned and deleted
Cloning allows you to reuse an existing dashboard structure and customize it without affecting the original.
Drill-Down Functionality
DvSum dashboards support drill-down functionality within widgets. Users can click on chart elements (such as bars, slices, or segments) to navigate to more detailed data views.
This enables deeper analysis directly from the dashboard without needing to manually navigate to underlying modules.
Core Widget Components
Asset Type
The asset type defines the kind of data the widget is built on, such as rules, datasets, glossary terms, or issues. Selecting the correct asset type ensures the widget reflects the correct workflow and attributes.
Metrics
Metrics define what is being measured, such as counts, trends, or status-based values. Some widgets support multiple metrics, while others are intentionally limited to keep the visualization simple.
Filters
Filters limit the data included in a widget. Common use cases include filtering by domain, environment, status, or category. Reusing the same filters across widgets helps maintain consistency across a dashboard.
Slicers
Slicers group or segment data by attributes such as owner, status, or domain. The number of slicers selected has a direct impact on which chart types are available.
