Filtering Assets Using Quick Filters and Governance Views

In this Article

Overview

DvSum provides flexible filtering capabilities that allow users to quickly refine asset listings or create structured, reusable filtered views.

There are two primary ways to filter assets:

  1. Quick Filters on Listing Pages – Temporary, session-based filtering

  2. Persistent Filters in Governance Views – Saved, reusable filtering for governance workflows

Understanding when and why to use each option helps teams work more efficiently and maintain consistent governance practices.

Quick Filters on Listing Pages

Quick Filters are available across asset listing pages such as:

  • Database Tables

  • Database Columns

  • Business Glossary

These filters are designed for temporary, ad hoc exploration.

Note: Once cleared or once leave the page, these filters are not retained.

How Quick Filters Work

  1. Navigate to a listing page.

  2. Click the filter icon in a column header.

  3. Select or enter filter criteria.

  4. Apply the filter.

Filtered results update immediately.

String Field Filtering

String-based filtering applies to all text-type fields, including: Name, Business Name, Source, Database, Table Name, etc.,.

How It Works

  1. Click the filter icon in the desired column header.
  2. A dynamically generated list of values appears.
  3. Select one or more values from the list.
  4. Apply the filter to refine the results.

Note:

  • For the Table Name and Business name of the Tables, users need to type a keyword to search for available values from the database.
  • Up to 100 values can be selected at a time.

Numeric and Date Field Filtering

For numeric and date-type fields such as:

  • Record Count
  • Last Profiled On
  • Column Count

How It Works

  1. Click the filter icon in the numeric or date column.
  2. Select a condition from the dropdown menu.
  3. If the selected condition requires input (for example, Equals or In Range), the system enables input fields.
  4. Enter the required numeric value or date.
  5. Click Apply Filter.

Note: Users can also apply up to two conditions within the same column using AND or OR logic. The second condition is optional and only applies if configured.

Combining Multiple Conditions (AND / OR Logic)

The filter panel allows users to apply multiple conditions within the same column using AND or OR logic.

  • AND – Results must satisfy both conditions.
  • OR – Results can satisfy either condition.

Optional Second Condition

The filter panel provides two condition rows to allow advanced filtering. However, configuring both conditions is optional.

  • Users may configure only one condition and leave the second condition blank.
  • If one condition is left blank, the system applies only the completed condition.
  • The selected AND/OR logic becomes active only when both conditions contain valid values.

This provides flexibility for both simple and advanced filtering needs.

Managing Active Filters

  • Once applied, active filters are displayed at the top of the listing page.
  • This allows users to clearly see all currently applied conditions.
  • Filters can be modified or cleared directly from the header.

Persistent Filters in Governance Views

Governance Views allow users to create saved, reusable filtered views that support ongoing governance workflows.

Unlike Quick Filters, these views:

  • Persist across sessions

  • Can be reused repeatedly

  • Provide structured visibility for governance tasks

For steps on creating a Governance View, refer to the How to Create Governance Views article.

Applying Filters in Governance Views

When creating or editing a Governance View, filters are configured under Specify Criteria.

Users can:

  1. Select a field

  2. Choose an appropriate condition

  3. Enter or select values

  4. Add multiple criteria

All configured criteria are saved as part of the view.

Each time the Governance View is opened, the defined filters are automatically applied.

Using Multiple Criteria

Multiple criteria can be combined within a single Governance View to refine results further.

This flexibility allows teams to create simple or advanced views aligned with operational, compliance, or governance requirements.

For detailed steps on creating or applying the filters, refer to the How to Apply Filters in Governance Views
